San Juan Del Rio Religious Education Program
Parents are entrusted and empowered by Christ to carry out their duty of sharing the Gospel of Life and guiding their children towards a deeper connection with Him, facilitating a fuller grasp of God’s love for them. Our Family Faith Formation initiative focuses on emphasizing the pivotal role of parents as the primary educators of their children in matters of faith. As stated in the Guide for Parents to the Religious Education Curriculum (Link to Guide). “Parents have the primary responsibility for the faith formation of their children. The Church is obligated to provide them with full support in this endeavor.” Religious education is changing to assist our parents in instructing their children to understand and respond to the fullness of the Christian life.
A genuine revitalization of catechesis necessitates fresh instructional approaches that enable children, educators, parents, and families to explore their genuine Catholic identity. The Church must develop innovative catechetical materials to impart doctrinal teachings faithfully and articulate the relevance of faith in contemporary culture.
We have implemented a new curriculum. “The Word of Life Series” is a religious education program published by the Augustine Institute/Ignatius Press. This program is filled with instructional material and resources to teach and engage your children in the richness of God’s love based on scripture. Online materials such as books, videos, brochures, and stories are available to enrich your child’s understanding of God’s love for them, and they are available to you, the parents, so that you can see what your child is learning in the classroom.
We will send you an invitation at the beginning of the school year and ask that you accept and sign up for the Word of Life Series online portal. Our Catechists will use this curriculum to instruct your child throughout the school year.
Below is an outline of our guiding principles and class schedule.
Parish Religious Education Program
The Religious Education program for Jan Juan Del Rio Catholic Church is based on four guiding principles:
- To establish and deepen our students’ personal friendship with Jesus Christ.
- To teach our students the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church
- To reinforce the faith foundation taught at home and at Mass.
- To teach Catholic life skills, personal prayer, scripture, sacraments, and service.
Classes meet on Wednesdays on campus with a skilled Catechist as the instructor.
Early Session: 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Grades K through 8
Late Session 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Grades 1 through 8
Parents of our 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students are invited to class once a month to witness what their child is learning and engage with the catechists. We hope that this will encourage a conversation between you and your child. See the Attached Calendar.
The continuous religious education of your child(ren) is very important to us as they are the future of our faith community. Therefore, no child will be prevented from attending religious education classes because of family financial hardship issues. To apply for financial assistance, please contact the Religious Education Office for a Financial Hardship Fee Waiver form.
